We are cautious in the Alps. Helicopter skiing is very technical, as crevasses, and snow conditions are constantly changing. Our Heli Skiing trips are built for most skill levels, and we take safety very seriously across the spectrum of skiing ability.
You can only really do a drop in one of the designated 48 landing spots, most of which are in the Valais region. From each heli drop you get a choice of routes, which allow you to be able to ski more than 2000m of vertical descent – that’s anything from two to three hours.
We like to finish our high altitude skiing by lunch time as the snow pack can become unstable later in the day because of the rise in temperature. Because of the length of the runs, one or two helicopter drops are usually all that we have time for in one day.
It also helps to have a secret weapon on your side. Our network and team members have the qualifications to help us make the best decisions when planning helicoter skiing. Our main pilot and friend, the amiable and friendly Roland is a helicopter flight instructor and designated flight examiner. Having flown the European Alps for over 20 years, notching up over 10,000 flying hours, his knowledge of the region is extensive. Of the 48 spots in the Swiss Alps where you can heli-ski, and he has flown them many times. he flies a Eurocopter Ecureuil B3, one of the world’s most powerful helicopters and the only type to have landed on the summit of Mt Everest. Roland understands the thrills SwisSkiSafari clients enjoy.
Put simply: we all live here. Being local means we are well connected, we are on the ground, and we are wide awake. Being able to open doors where no-one else can, we are the rule makers, the snow forecasters, and the boundary-pushers. We make high end skiing in Europe a reality.
Helicopter skiing in Switzerland offers the best ski options because with each drop off point, there are many ski options available that can suit any level of skier, not just powder specialists.
